Family Fun/ Theme Parks

The National Showcaves Centre for Wales in the Swansea valleys (J45) is a good family day out. As well as the caves to explore there is also an Iron Age Village, model dinosaurs, a museum, stone circles, a shire horse centre, a working farm and Barney’s Owl’s adventure playground. A very short distance from the showcaves is Cefn-yr-Erw Primate Sanctuary. Formerly a traditional Welsh hill farm, the sanctuary now rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals, especially primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, capuchins and marmosets.

Oakwood Theme Park is also a great place to take the family. This theme park offers some high adrenalin thrill rides for those that want thrills, to more sedate children's rides and activities. Reasonably priced entrance with family tickets of 4 or 6 makes this an affordable day out. Special events are organised throughout the year. The Oakwood Centre also houses "Techniquest" providing interactive science activities. Nearby is  Folly Farm which offers six fantastic zones to visit... the Jolly Farm, a spectacular Zoo, an enormous vintage Funfair, indoor and outdoor Adventure Play and Folly Wood Country Park.

Castles and Museums

The castles at Oxwich, Weobley, Dryslwyn, Llansteffan, Carreg Cennen & Kidwelly are very interesting for the historically minded. Dolaucothi Goldmines date back to Roman times and offer a great insight to how gold was mined out of the Welsh hills hundreds of years ago. Further afield at Laugharne lies Dylan Thomas Country with the famous boathouse and Castle and the long sandy beach at Pendine is a little further down the road from Laugharne. The Pendine museum of speed interprets the Pendine area, focusing on the use of the sands at Pendine for land speed attempts and racing. The main exhibit for the summer season is 'Babs', the motor car used by Parry Thomas on his fatal attempt at the record in 1927. Other record breaking and fast vehicles can be seen at other times.

Golf

The Ashburnham golf courseis one of the top courses in Wales; it's the demanding seaside venue where the great Welshman and winning Ryder Cup Captain, Dai Ress won the PGA title in 1959, has long been regarded as one of the best links courses in Britain. The pay and play Glyn Abbey Golf Course is one of the best technically designed courses in the South Wales area with amazing views over the Gwendraeth Valley, beautiful wooded surroundings and one of the best layouts in South Wales. Directly on our doorstep is the fabulous recent Machynys Niklaus golf course - voted Gold Medal 2005 in the Golf Monthly magazine. It also has a clubhouse and spa which is open to members of the public. This course is approx a ten minute walk from the apartment.
